The last article we at Zamenet wrote was about setting up an Amazon AWS account. However, some of the users had commented that they were unable to activate the trial as their credit or debit card seem not to be working. In this article, we shall be looking for possible fixes to this problem.
Which cards are best for AWS?
As per my opinion, all the credit cards work smoothly with AWS. However, for debit cards, there are some restrictions.
For Indian customers, since international transactions are paused by default thus they might need to Activate international transactions manually by contacting the bank.
Regarding Indian debit cards, we have discussed that in this article later. Make sure to read the article completely.
Are debit cards supported for activating free trials?
At the time this article is written Amazon AWS supports debit cards for activating free trials.
Which debit cards can be used to activate the trial?
To make a successful trial you need a global debit card of any Indian bank( for Indian users) with international transactions enabled.
What if I don’t have a global or international debit card?
In that case, you can still activate the free trial with some sort of tricks which we shall tell you in this blog.
Try to get a MasterCard/Visa debit card from VIrtual debit card providers like Airtel Payments Bank or HDFC Payzapp.
These two services provide you with a virtual debit card once you complete the KYC.
The airtel payment Bank issues Prepaid debit card on minimum KYC and Classis debit card on Extended/Full KYC. The card is Mastercard.
While Payzapp will only provide your card only after full KYC verification. The card provided in Payzapp is Visa.
We haven’t tested it with Payzapp but we have tested AWS free trial with Airtel Payments Bank Virtual debit cards (both prepaid and classic) and the card seemed to work in our case.
The thing to still note is that these two cards still aren’t international so we need to use a trick to activate the trial.
The trick we shall use is discussed below now
1.Get your debit card number and other details.
2.Go to the page where AWS asks you for verification for trial activation and enter those details there.
3.AWS will then tell you that it will deduct some amount(less than 1 USD in most cases) and after successful transactions, your trial will be processed successfully.
4.Since we don’t have an international card thus transaction in the case of the airtel card should just get processed but money will not be deducted and Due to some Unknown reason AWS still activates the account. This is some sort of Bypass but it’s safe and legal as we didn’t do anything that violated the terms of service of AWS.
Once this is done you will receive an email that your free tier is activated. Now you can use all AWS services like EC2, S3, Lightsail, etc.
