CentOs and Debians are The Two Prototype of Linux operating system.
CentOS is an industry and enterprise class Operating System while debian is usually meant for general purpose servers where Update to GNU packages Are required more frequently. This is the reason why Most of the Linux operating system are Using CentOs.
CentOS has many versions which are quite popular like CentOS 6,CentOS 7,CentOS 8..
All of these version of CentOS are equally used as all of them are for for their respective requirements.
CentOS is backed by a large community of Developers and system admins and is supposed to be maintained by Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Both of these server OS are popular choices in the market; let us discuss some of the major difference:
One should pick Debian as it generally has more up to date packages and because it is easier to upgrade to a newer version. A lot of people have started their GNU/Linux journey with Red Hat Linux, and they have always used CentOS and Fedora on their Desktop.
If one is more used to CentOS and is more accustomed to working with it or have been using it for long, then there is no real reason to migrate to Debian. CentOS vs Debian are both the best options one can have when choosing a GNU/Linux distribution to install on their web server or any other server.
There is one more thing that one should keep in mind when installing a Web Server. If this server is going to be used as a reseller tool, he/she may want to install a tool called cPanel, and in such a case going with CentOS is recommended, as it is officially supported.
Majority of the System Admins Including Us use CentOS for our server because of it’s stability.
Since for CentOS the updates are not released very frequently this the overall build for this OS is quite stable and thus it is the best choice for enterprise and Hosting Companies.
You should Consider debian Over CentOS if you don’t want to use it on a enterprise-level cloud or Enterprise level servers.Ofher major benefit of Debian is that it’s interface is quite intuitive and Graphical thus if makes the work quite easy for regular tasks.
CentOS is Not A GUI based so it runs totally on Linux commands. This is the aspect where Debian beats CentOS and thus users must have made a choice by now.
Both of the Operating system are great and highly secure as they are open source.
Debian is used in Personal PC most frequently and less frequently bused on Enterprise and Industry scale servers.
If your aim is more stable and more secure system then your choice can be CentOS and if you need GUI for managing and carrying out operations you can go with Debian.
